JP dropped by over the weekend to try out the EA amps, so I finally had a chance to have a go at the Dingwall ABII that I sold him awhile back. I’m now afraid that I might never look at “standard” parallel fret basses the same way again….
The fit and finish on this bass is way up there with all the best that I know, but one thing that blew me away completely is the playability of this beast. The extremely comfortable neck profile + impeccable setup, combined with the organic ergonomics of the fanned fret system made it so easy that even though it was my first time playing a fanned fret bass (let alone 6′er), within 2 minutes, I was playing it as though it was a bass that I’ve practiced on for the past few years!
If you’ve shied away from fanned frets because you think they’re unnatural to play on, I will gladly arrange for a session for you to try out a Dingwall. But be careful, you might never want to go back!
Anyways, I also took the opportunity to take some proper photos of the bass. Here it is for your viewing pleasure :)
Isn’t the bubinga top + walnut back and neck just gorgeous??
As always, if you’d like to order one of these amazing basses, drop me a mail at cherns [at] rdmgear.com and I’ll work out something for you.
